Exraordinary Friday - Author JHeather

7:43:00 AM

Extraordinary Friday is where I spotlight women doing awesome things in the community. I want to highlight ordinary women achievements to encourage women to become extraordinary women. To showcase that they too can be teachers, business owners, or volunteers.

I had the wonderful opportunity to speak with Ms Heather on the phone and immediately she made my spirit leap. She is a very positive person who has overcome a lot. She has the ability to uplift and encourage everyone she encounters. She is childhood friends with Haleveshia Hall our previous Extraordinary Woman. This is testament positive people tend be drawn towards each other. Don’t forget to pick up a copy of her book “The First Day of The Rest of My Life: How my storms became my story” It is available on Kindle now!

Love You!

Heather Johnson is a 30 year old entrepreneur from Albany, GA. Born and raised there she never knew that today her whole life would be dedicated to serving others. Heather is the creator of JHeather Enterprises which is a conglomerate of entities which includes and is not limited to her public speaking, Team Action Inc., a (nonprofit) for which she serves as the Regional Director for Georgia alongside Lakeshia Broussard who is the founder and Executive Director (Miami, Florida). Her community services events and her book (self-published) March 2011 entitled The First Day of The Rest of My Life: How my storms became my story ;which is changing the lives of her readers and bringing awareness to those who may not have had the experiences that Heather has had in her lifetime. She is a testament that prayer changes a multitude of things. A single mother of daughter Jaida, Heather aims to let her know that the sky is not the limit but the stairway to whatever she desires to be in life. Heather is embarking on reaching an international audience and working to spread her message. “Let today be the first day” is her motto and today she is living proof that you can move from pain to power with faith, prayer, and the undeniable strength to stand in spite of adversities.

What is an interesting fact about you?

I never anticipated being an author. Somehow destiny just has its way of sneaking up on you.

What is your personal mission statement?

Let Today Be the First Day… I say this because so many of us dwell on things of the past or yesterday when once it is gone there is nothing we can say or do what has happened in that time span. But, what we can do is treat each day as it’s our first and no matter how hard things have been or how many trials a person has been through Today can be the start of something fresh and new and can be whatever it is you want it to be. Words you live by?

What is the name of your business/organization?

The name of my business is JHeather Enterprises

How is this business/organization impacting women’s lives?

By the public speaking, community work, and events I work on daily to encourage and motivate the next woman who may not know how beautiful she is, how much she is worth, how she is a necessity, and how she has potential to come out of every situation and not look like what she’s been through.

What was your aha moment?

When I sat on my bed crying talking to God asking him what my “Purpose” was and how fast he answered me letting me know that it was bigger than myself and that it was to help make an impact on the lives of women, our youth, and people who I may never even meet due to the experiences that I have gone through in my own life.

Many times I hear women think their lives are over when they make a mistake, what encouraging advice would you give?

No one is perfect and we all make mistakes, but it’s what you do after you have recognized the mistake that matters.

Today we hear a lot about work/life balance. How do you balance being a wife, mom, entrepreneur/leader & etc…?

It’s all work, but I have to stay grounded and focused on what is important. God, my daughter, my household, my business is my balance in that order. Because I am a leader and I am in ministry (not a pastor), but I serve; It’s that more important that I have balance and be able to be transparent. Because wherever I go and whatever I do I have to be able to adapt and adjust because everyone won’t look like me or have the same lifestyle or background as I do. It takes something to be a leader and I was never one to jump at the opportunity, but God has a way of choosing those whose lives have been less than perfect.

Outside of the bible and school books are there any recommended reading that has inspired you on your journey?

A million little pieces by James Frey

A Lesson before Dying by Ernest J. Gaines

Positive Thinking by Wally Amos

If you could name an animal that describes you, what would it be and why?

I would compare myself to a bear because of them being so powerful and having the ability to adapt.

When I was working on my first book I had this song I always listen to keep me going. It was “Closer to My Dreams” by Goapele. What is the song(s) that keeps you moving?
There are lists of songs that keep me motivated but I will only name a few. Sometimes (Bilal), Carousels (Rudy Currence), and Why me (KIKI Sheard)

How can people become involved with your organization?

www.teamgives.org is the website for the nonprofit Team Action Inc. and contributions and volunteers can be submitted there.

The purpose of my blog is to encourage women to step out of their comfort zone and do something extraordinary. Whether it is volunteering, writing a book, starting a band, or reading to the elderly, I want to encourage women to be Extraordinary. To live their best life yet! What are some parting words of wisdom or nuggets of knowledge you want to leave with my readers?

I often tell colleagues and friends that if they have any dreams and aspirations that they should put them down on paper and by doing that it would bring them that much closer to those things being a reality. Life is what you make it so you should not do what you’ve seen others do, but do what no one else has done before.
