7:05:00 AM

Good Morning! Happy Friday! I am feeling on Ten right now.  I have been excercising my butt off the last few weeks and I am starting see the results! (another blog) This week extraoridinaray woman is really awesome! She is doing a great job of helping women break the addiction to the creamy crack in South GA.  She is my friend, sister, and soror (ZphiB).

Let’s meet our Extraordinary Woman…

Hello my name is Kelley Saxon and I am the owner of Natural Hair Wear. I am from Valdosta, Georgia and I currently reside there with my husband Johnny Saxon Jr. I am an alumni of Valdosta State University and I am a member of St. Mark Missionary Baptist Church in Valdosta Georgia. My hobbies are spending time with family and friends, arts and crafts, and thinking of new business adventures.

JAY’L: What makes you an Extraordinary Woman?

Kelley: I think what makes me a Extraordinary Woman is that I have the ability to step out on faith regardless of what the outcome may be. I have been able to put my ideas into motion and actually act on them via faith.

Jay’L: Tell me more about your organization/business?

Kelley: Natural Hair Wear specializes in natural hair apparel for women, men and children. We also design shirts for businesses, meet up groups, special events etc. We recently added jewelry and accessories to our business. We plan natural hair meet up events and host jewelry parties.

Jay’L: How is your business/organization impacting women’s lives?

Kelley: I think that our business helps women to feel beautiful in their own skin. The goal of Natural Hair Wear is to help women, men, and children to embrace their natural hair as it is and in style! The purpose of our apparel is to help boost self esteem and awareness. Too often I hear stories about little girls being bullied at school because of their natural hair so we decided to do a tshirt that has little girls on them with natural hair wearing a princess crown and the shirt says natural princess. I think that something as simple as a tshirt shows our little ones how precious and special they are in which we hope that this mind frame will carry over into adulthood.

Jay’L: What made you step out on Faith? What was your aha moment?

Kelley: My initial step out on faith was a little over a year ago I transitioned from my local government job that I had for almost five years to start a business in affordable housing. We all know with the economy the housing market crashed. So did my housing business, however I listened to what God told me to do. I nearly lost everything I owned. I also fell ill with a spontaneous collapsed lung a week before my wedding! Numerous other things happened in between that seemed to not be in my favor at all. I wanted to ask God why me… but my mother always tells us why not you...God does not have his favorites! I had a hard time dealing with this I have never had anything that I tried to not be successful. . I fell into a deep depression but the prayers of my family especially my mother and my faith sustained me. But I had faith and knew that I was obedient and followed with God was leading me to do. I struggled with the business not being successful but I knew/know in my heart that obedience is better than sacrifice. I stepped out on faith with the housing business after really researching praying and saving to do it and listening to what God had spoke to me. I still could not understand why the business failed when everything was in place and started out well and I saw and followed the vision that the Lord had given me. But through it all I by God’s grace I am still here. Things have been rough but I have not missed a beat if God takes care of the birds in the air surely he will take care of his own! Ok so I had to share my testimony … but back to the question… lol what made me step out with Natural Hair Wear was that for one I really did not have anything to lose! I also had a product that I felt I could turn around and market plus it was much easier than getting someone approved to buy a house : ) I also wanted to add to my own personal collection t-shirts that said on the outside what I was feeling about my hair in the inside. I looked to buy these shirts from others and other companies had good ones but it just was not exactly tailored to what I wanted for myself. So I decided to step out on faith and give it a try. I started marketing via social media and it just caught on. The same thing with the accessories I love them so I posted some of the pieces that I found and bought and offered them via social media and it caught on. I would say this was my aha moment of you never know until you try.

Jay'L: What motivates you or drives you especially when things get a little hectic?
Kelley: I think what motivates me is knowing success will never be accomplished if we do not try. I try my best to prioritize things that I need to accomplish. I think what also drives me are my supporters/customers in who I refer to as “loves”. The heartwarming support keeps me going especially on days when I do not know which way is up!

Jay’L: In Ephesians 3:20 it states, “God will do exceedingly and abundantly above anything that you can ask or imagine according to the power that is at work within you.” How does this passage apply to you?

Kelley: I think my previous stated testimony can be applied to this. I feel like God took me through these things to prepare me for the bigger things that he has in store. I believe that God keeps his promises but he has never used anybody that was not doing anything. Faith without works is dead, so I must work while I can!

Jay’L: What obstacles have you had to overcome? How did you overcome them?

Kelley: In my Natural Hair Wear business obstacles that I have overcome are the limited funds to get the business started. I always have liked the saying that closed mouths do not get fed! I had to ask for a little help. I was blessed to be able to have silent business partners who give me 0% interest small loans to help along the way.

Jay’L: How do you handle negativity& negative people?

Kelley: I pray about it and I really try to take what some may see as negativity and learn from it as constructive criticism. Of course you will have some people who you will never be able to please and you will have to come to grips and say well maybe we are just not a good fit for each other and keep it moving! Negative people and energy drains me so I limit that to 0 as much as I can.

Jay’L: Extraordinary women usually live very busy lives, how do you handle success? What do you do as your stress reliever? What do you do in your spare time? What is your favorite weekend getaway spot?

Kelley: I handle success by investing back into other things I would like to accomplish or expand on. I like to watch HGTV,TLC, Bridezillas and other shows as a comic relief! It is really hard to say these days it seems like spare time is no time but I like what I do so when I have some time to spare I like come up with new tshirt designs or do an arts and crafts project. My favorite getaway spot would be in Atlanta (with the hubby) for a weekend.

Jay’L: Any recommended reading that has inspired you on your journey?

Kelley: This may be so cliché but I like to read Psalm: 37 it helps me.

Jay’L: What are your tried and true sho’ nuff steps to success?

Kelley: I would say to just try…step out on faith and see what you get. Never give up… this road is not always easy by far but you have to be persistent … Ask… never count yourself out and be afraid of the word no. I let people or businesses tell me if they will not be able to do something. Never count yourself out remember a closed mouth does not get fed! Most of all ask the Lord for his guidance and grace put him first in all that you do and expect the unexpected and be willing to endure.

Jay’L: What is your legacy?

Kelley: My legacy is that I fought and worked for reach success. I hope to be able to be remembered as someone who thought outside of the box and stepped out on faith.

Jay’l: Ways to contact you or where to find your product? How to get involve with your organization?
Kelley: Ways to contact me via email naturalhairwear@gmail.com or via facebook Natural Hair Wear . Our website is www.naturalhairwear.com. I would say using our tshirt printing services and getting the word out about our business would be a great help.

Jay’L: The purpose of my blog is to encourage women to step out of their comfort zone and do something extraordinary. Whether it is volunteering, writing a book, starting a band, or reading to the elderly, I want to encourage women to be Extraordinary. To live their best life yet! What are some parting words of wisdom or nuggets of knowledge you want to leave with my readers?

Kelley: I am a Oprah fan and through the years she has said so many profound things that I would like to share… Don’t Stop Believing, You are worth it, Be the best you can be and serve others. My mother is another person I am a fan of I will share what she says to me all the time God has something great in store just keep trying and never stop dreaming!

Thank you for the opportunity!
