This Little Light of Mine

10:20:00 AM

Today while ready my daily devotional from Joyce Meyer, I had a revelation on the scripture she wrote about. It is Deuteronomy 10:18-19, "He ensures that orphans and widows receive justice. He shows love to the foreigners living among you and gives them food and clothing.19 So you, too, must show love to foreigners, for you yourselves were once foreigners in the land of Egypt."  Reading this cause me to think about my own life.  I know I work for agency that works with the foster children & my mom works for an agency that works with the elderly. My best friend works with AIDAtlanta.  My aunt and brother works with the special needs children.  My whole family has been the champion of the underdog. Even while we were struggling financially God always saw fit to give us enough to share. Even with having a heart for others, My mind still wonder to "Am I doing enough?"  I asked myself this question, because I realize even though I am doing this great work and my family as well, but are we influencing others to take up the charge as well.  In the bible, it talks about a light & the purpose of letting the light shine. The purpose of the light is so everyone can see.  (read Mathew 5: 15)

Today I am letting my light shine, not for my own glory but to bring glory to the most high God.  My purpose of letting my light shine is to challenge you, to cause you to ponder as well, "What am I doing to help those less fortunate than myself?"  If you are already doing the work, "What are you doing to bring attention to your cause?"  There are many organizations that need help from volunteering to fundraising.  They need more than just our prayers but they need people with action plans and a can-do spirit.  There are many things going on in our community that needs our attention and need someone to organize other to get the job done.

As we go into the New Year, began to think about things that can be done to improve someone else quality of life.  While making your resolutions and life goals, make sure it includes some selfless acts as well.  Make 2012 the year you Give More & Do More for others.   Take up a cause that your family will commit to for the year and not just a Christmas time.  Adopt a family that has foster children in their home. Help them my buying a bag a groceries a month to help feed the children or even become a respite place for the children so the foster parents can have a break.  Adopt an elderly person & spend time with them or have Sunday dinner with them.  I challenge you to let your light shine bright!
