10 Funs Things to Consider When to Marketing to Xennials
As a Xennial, I don’t want to be spam with content in my inbox nor do I want to be told what to do. I love being on social media, but I also love spending time away from all the hype. I miss the days in college when we would all gather over to my sorority sister’s apartment to make mix tapes and dance the night away. I miss going to the club and taking shots of tequila. However, I’m super happy that I made it out of my twenties alive & thriving in my early 40’s. With all the hype of business trying to market to Millennials and Generation X, businesses tend to have forgotten about us. Honestly, I don’t think we care. Our parents are from the Baby Boomer generations, and grandparents from the Greatest generation to ever live. Both of these generations instilled a work ethic and sense of pride in us. We don’t have to wait for anyone to make us feel loved or great. We don’t need the extra pats on the back to feel important. We were taught to be self-reliant and to govern ourselves. (yay playground rules) When no one is giving us an opportunity, we go create an opportunity for ourselves. I am in a beautiful place in my life. I realize as a Xennial that I am apart of microgeneration that bridges the gap of all generations. Unique and one of a kind. Just like the middle child in every family, we march to our own beat of the drum. We do our own thing.
When marketing to us, keep in mind the following:
We love good music from the 70’s all the way to the current time.
We rode big wheels as children and played Nintendo.
We were the first to use the Oregon Trail.
The first social media site we loved was Myspace.com and BlackPlanet.com.
We probably met our first real boyfriend in a chatroom on Yahoo.
We thought the flip phone was off tha chain!
We love Instagram and Youtube, but thankful it wasn’t around when we were growing up.
We are the first to take selfies before the smartphone.
We love a girls night out and getting wasted!!!
We are socially and politically active.
